Boiling Hot Water Technology®: revolutionary cleaning with pure water

Sometimes the most groundbreaking innovations arise from a specific demand. This also applies to Waterkracht's Boiling Hot Water Technology®. In the 1990s, Waterkracht was approached by a customer who saw a method in New Zealand using boiling hot water for weed control. His question was: is it possible to develop a technique with which we constantly produce boiling hot water?

Our engineers went straight to work. They adapted existing high-pressure trailers and experimented with different settings to generate a constant stream of boiling hot water. During a test in our wash bay, something remarkable happened: a jet of water hit an oil drum, and within seconds the paint completely came off. The combination of extreme heat and high pressure proved to have unprecedented cleaning power.

How does the Boiling Hot Water Technology® work?

What started as a technical challenge grew into a revolutionary cleaning technique. Waterkracht further developed and patented this method. By now, all our high-pressure trailers are equipped with this revolutionary technique as standard. The Boiling Hot Water Technique® has since proved its worth in numerous applications: from façade cleaning to graffiti removal.

The power of the Boiling Hot Water Technique® lies in the combination of high temperature and energy transfer, also known as the Thermoshock effect. When water of 99 to 102°C is sprayed at high pressure onto a surface, the boiling water droplets cause a direct heat impact. This has two main effects:

- For high-pressure cleaning: Stubborn dirt such as graffiti, oil, chewing gum and atmospheric pollution loosen at lightning speed. Unlike steam, where a lot of heat is lost, boiling hot water has 28 times higher heat transfer. As a result, it works faster and more effectively without damaging the surface.

- For weed control: Although the primary focus of this technique is cleaning, we also deploy it effectively against weeds. Heat breaks down the proteins in the plant cells, structurally depleting the plant without damaging the soil.

All the advantages at a glance

  • 100% environmentally friendly - No chemicals or harmful agents, safe for humans, animals and the environment.
  • More effective than steam or hot water - 28 times higher heat transfer ensures thorough cleaning and in-depth weed control.
  • Sustainable and cost-saving - Up to 80% less water consumption and 50-80% less fuel consumption.
  • Suitable for various applications - From graffiti and façade cleaning to industrial cleaning and structural weed control.
  • Safe for substrates - No damage to delicate surfaces such as natural stone or listed buildings.

In practice: CAS Netherlands keeps Dutch streets clean

CAS Netherlands deploys the Boiling Hot Water Technique® to clean streets effectively - without chemicals and with less water consumption. Thanks to this sustainable method, Dutch cities remain clean in an efficient and environmentally friendly way.

Why is it better than other methods?

There are several methods for pressure washing and weed control, but none combine effectiveness, speed and durability like the Boiling Hot Water Technique®.

More effective than steam cleaning

Steam seems like a powerful cleaning agent, but it has a major drawback: heat loss. As soon as steam is released, it immediately loses much of its temperature to the air. Cooking hot water, on the other hand, has 28 times greater heat transfer, which loosens dirt faster and makes cleaning more effective.

Compare it to an iron: when you hold your hand over the steam, you hardly feel anything, but a drop of boiling water on your skin? You feel that one immediately. This difference makes boiling hot water much more powerful than steam.

Environmentally friendly and more sustainable

Traditional methods such as chemical cleaners and aggressive high-pressure jets have harmful effects on the environment and surfaces. The Boiling Hot Water Technique® works without chemicals, uses less water and reduces fuel consumption. This makes it an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution.

Suitable for various applications

The Boiling Hot Water Technique® is successfully used for:

  • Graffiti and facade cleaning
  • Removal of chewing gum and oil
  • Industrial cleaning

Evidence from the field: hydropower tests the differences

To measure the effectiveness of the Boiling Hot Water Technique®, compared to hot water and steam objective, Waterkracht conducted an extensive test.
