Bolk Transport: Solar-powered cleaning solution for high-pressure pumps

Bolk Transport from Almelo, specialists in large and special transport, chose to replace the existing high-pressure pumps and gas burners in their car wash. With a focus on sustainability, they were looking for a way to heat water efficiently without being dependent on gas or diesel. Waterkracht provided a future-proof solution that perfectly matched this focus.

The collaboration

  • Replacing 25-year-old Waterkracht plant with modern, sustainable high-pressure pumps
  • Water heating with boilers combined with solar energy, instead of gas or diesel
  • Frequency-controlled pumps, fully integrated into the existing car wash

About Bolk Transport

Bolk Transport began in 1934 as a transporter for the liquor and coal trade. The company has since grown into a leading player in the field of special transport. Today, Bolk Transport is known for transporting complex and heavy loads: ranging from industrial machinery to construction materials.

The transport company operates internationally and offers flexible logistics solutions that meet their customers' specific requirements.

The challenges

After 25 years, the existing high-pressure pumps and gas burners in Bolk Transport's car wash were due for replacement. Bolk seized this opportunity to switch to a more sustainable system that provides hot water without using gas or diesel heating. The transport company chose to use the energy generated from solar panels for the electric boilers. Waterkracht supplied and integrated the new pumps into the existing infrastructure.

The new installation not only met the company's sustainable ambitions, but also provided a more efficient use of energy and water, while keeping the existing and well-maintained washplace equipment (piping and C-rail system) intact.

Our approach

Waterkracht provided a customised solution that perfectly matched Bolk Transport's requirements. The new pumps receive hot water from two 800-litre boilers, electrically heated by solar energy. Each pump has its own boiler, which automatically replenishes and heats up water. This ensures that there is always sufficient hot water available during the cleaning process.

  • The frequency-controlled high-pressure pumps adjust the water flow automatically according to demand. This results in lower energy consumption in addition to cleaning power (working pressure).

  • The high-pressure pumps are directly coupled to the existing pipework, with the nozzles supplied ensuring that the existing spray guns deliver the desired working pressure and flow rate.

  • To prevent cavitation, each pump is equipped with a pre-pressure pump. This extends the life of the system.

  • For maximum efficiency the pumps automatically switch off after a certain period of time, thanks to built-in timers. This prevents unnecessary energy and water consumption.

Waterkracht worked closely with Bolk and the installer to install the pumps exactly as scheduled.

Results

Thanks to Waterkracht's new solution, Bolk Transport now cleans their trucks more efficiently and sustainably. The combination of solar energy and frequency-controlled pumps significantly reduces energy and water consumption, without compromising cleaning capacity. The built-in timers prevent unnecessary energy consumption during inactivity, thus contributing to the sustainability of the system.

The investment in this sustainable technology fits perfectly with Bolk's long-term strategy, which focuses on environmental friendliness and operational efficiency.
